Here are some questions that we are frequently asked:
What is the difference between each cottage?
All 6 of our 1 bedroom, 1 bath cottages have THE SAME layout, furnishings and appointments. All backdoors open onto the large, enclosed courtyard. Cottages 1-4 face Cable St. and Cottages 5 and 6 face Santa Cruz Ave. Cottage 5 and 6 have a front porch area that is enclosed within the yard. A great choice for guests with children or dogs that run out the door unexpectedly. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOUR COTTAGE CHOICE IS A SPECIAL REQUEST.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in: 3PM Check-out: 11AM. Please inquire immediately if an early check-in or late check-out is needed.
What is the cancellation policy for Blue Heron Cottages?
If you cancel 30 days OR MORE prior to arrival, we will REFUND ALL MONIES PAID. Minus $25 processing fee.
If you CANCEL LESS THEN 30 days prior to your arrival, you will FORFEIT 100% of all monies PAID, unless we can rebook your stay.
If you CANCEL WITHIN 24 hours we will charge a processing fee of $25 and REFUND ALL MONIES paid.
What is the reservation policy?
We require a 50% deposit with the balance due 30 days before check-in. Reservations less then 30 days from stay require a full payment at time of booking. We accept all forms of payment.
How many adults can your cottage accomodate?
Our cottages can comfortably sleep four adults. Each cottage has a separate bedroom with a queen size bed. Additionally, there is a convertible sectional sofa in the living room that makes into a VERY comfortable queen size bed. All linens are provided.
Is there a minimum period for which a cottage can be rented?
We have a two night minimum, except for the Thanksgiving and Winter Break, during which we have a 4 night minimum. Over the Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends we have a 3 night minimum stay.
Is there a Security Deposit required?
We require damage protection in the form of a $49 Damage Waiver Fee. This is a mandatory fee that is NON REFUNDABLE and covers you up to $1000 in accidental damages. Guests are responsible for any damages above this amount. Charges will only be made in the event of excessive damage.
Do you accept Credit Cards
We accept all major credit cards. Payment is made through a secure payment portal via the internet.
What other forms of payment do you accept?
We also accept checks by mail. Please inquire as to the address where payments of this kind shoud be sent.
Do you charge a cleaning fee?
A $125 cleaning fee is required for all stays.
What are the pet rules and extra costs for pets?
Dogs are allowed at Blue Heron Cottages. We require a one time fee of $25 for up to 4 dogs. You may bring more dogs, but there is a charge of an additional $25 for up to 4 more dogs. If your dog barks or is distructive when alone, please do not leave them unattended. We ask that only RESPONSIBLE pet owners join us. YOUR DOG’S POOP needs to be cleaned up and disposed of IMMEDIATELY (we provide the baggies).
How is check-in arranged?
Appoximately 1 week before your arrival you will be sent, via email, all the information you will need to check-in, including access codes and WiFi login imformation.
Is there parking?
Each cottage comes with an off street parking spot suitable for all car sizes.
Do you rent equipment like bikes, surfboards, etc?
We offer COMPLEMENTARY bikes, boogie boards, surfboards, beach chairs, umbrellas, sand toys and small coolers to use during your stay on a first come basis.
Is smoking allowed in the cottage?
In consideration of our guests, smoking is NOT allowed in the cottages. Smokers are welcome to smoke outside, AWAY FROM THE COTTAGES. Please be considerate of non-smokers. Dispose of butts in provided ash cans.
How close are you to Dog Beach?
Dog Beach is a large, public beach open to all dogs and their owners. Enjoy a traditional day at the beach with your pup! The cottage is just a 5 minute drive, or a 20 minute walk, away. There is a lovely cove that is only one and a half blocks away from our cottages, which is also dog friendly.
Is the back yard fenced in?
The common courtyard in the back of the cottages is entirely fenced in.
Is there air conditioning?
Although our cottages have ceiling fans, tower fans and access to cool ocean breezes, it can still become uncomfortably hot during an all too common heat wave. So, in order to keep our rental rates lower for all, we have opted to provide portable a/c units for a nominal fee of $4/day, $25/week, or $100/month If you would like to use a portable a/c unit in your cottage, please contact us ahead of time to have your unit installed and waiting.Or you can see what the weather will bring, and if you need more then the provided fans you can contact our on site manager during your stay.
Is there a barbecue?
Yes, we have two large barbeques for the communal use of all 6 cottages.
How much outdoor seating is there?
We have provided seating for 6 under the gazebo, additonal seating for 8 at the picnic table, and there is various seating throughout the courtyard area. There are also comfortable lounge chairs for your relaxation.
Can the entire property be rented for special events such as weddings and reunions?
Yes, we can comfortably accomodate up to 24 guests at Blue Heron Cottages. The open and large courtyard provides a beautiful setting for casual and relaxing entertainment for many more friends and family.
FEES and TAXES:
We are obligated to charge a 10.5 % San Diego Occupancy Tax on the rental portiononly for stays less then 30 days.
We also charge a one time cleaning fee of $125.
If you are bringing a dog we require a $25 pet fee for up to 4 dogs. You may bring more then 4 pets, but this will require an additional pet fee of $25.
Blue Heron Cottages charges a non refundable Damage Waiver Fee of $49 that covers you up to $1000 in accidental damages. This is a non refundable fee paid to management and is not a third party insurance product. If anything is broken or damaged during your stay, merely alert management and we will replace or repair, no questions asked. Accidental damage above $1000 will be the guest's responsibility to pay. Additional charges would only be made in the event of very excessive damage.
Cancelations: Greater then 30 days: full refund Less then 30 days: non refundable unless management can rebook canceled dates.
All cancelations incur a $25 cancelation fee.
Cancelations made within 24 hours of booking will receive a full refund, less a $25 processing fee.
We require a 50% deposit of all rents, fees and taxes for stays booked more then 30 days in the future. If less then one month prior, we require 100% at time of booking. We accept all major credit cards.
If you do not feel comfortable making payments online we can provide you with an address where checks can be sent. We will only accept checks for stays more then 10 days from time of booking. Please email owners at http://email@example.com for instructions.
